Where can you find an ethical breeder of Longhair Weimaraners? FIRST! IS THE WEIMARANER THE RIGHT BREED FOR YOU? Whether longhair or shorthair, you should take this Quiz Longhair Weimaraners are fairly rare. Here are some websites which give suggestions on what to look for in an ethical breeder and how to spot an unethical breeder, plus info about the breed from the WCA:
The current (1971) (AKC) Weimaraner Club of America Standard which lists the Longhair and Blue/black color as disqualifying faults. The Longhair Weimaraner is bred and shown in ALL OTHER COUNTRIES EXCEPT the USA. Since the Longhair coat is a disqualifying fault in the current Weimaraner Club of America standard, ethical WCA members are not allowed to purposely breed them. It is actually unethical for WCA members to deliberately breed a longhair at all. However, since shortcoated dogs often carry the recessive longhair gene, it is possible for WCA members to find a few longhair pups in their shorthair litters! So, we may list them so that they can find good homes for their pups without being in violation of the WCA Code of Ethics. Some ethical US Longhair breeders are not WCA members and maintain their stock from Europe, Australia, Canada, and other countries. A number of ethical WCA members in the US who find Longhairs in their litters export them to other countries. The following breeders in various countries have indicated their love and devotion to the Longhair Weimaraner. The parents are health tested and most have show, field, and/or performance titles. These breeders stand by their puppies and they never end up in Rescue Programs. You may have to be on a waiting list, but be patient while they plan a spectacular litter of Longhair puppies. Please do NOT support puppy mills or bad breeders as it hurts the very dogs they are exploiting! This website will try to maintain a current list of Longhair Weimaraner Breeders in all countries. If we find that any of these breeders are in any way exploiting the Longhair, they will be immediately removed.
